Don’t look down. The sky is clear and blue. When you breathe in for the first time after your months-long voyage, the fresh air tastes impossibly sweet.
Don’t look down. A single star rests in the heavens, yellow and warm. Shoals of silvery fish dart through picturesque waves.
Don’t look down. The islands quake and churn beneath your feet. Alerts appear hourly on your screens about impossibilities, measurements beyond rational explanation.
You look down. What lies beneath? What might be unearthed from the strata of the past? What has been forgotten? And what should have remained buried?

A week ago, three ships landed on the planet called Etsen. The Highmit Research Mission has journeyed to this planet, across the vast dangers of space, to help the planet’s scientists understand the impossibility of measuring a second star in a 100 kilometre diameter patch of their sky.

You landed at Scion. It’s small, compared to the average communities on your home planets. Not even 5000 people. But it’s the largest settlement in Etsen’s affected zone. And it’s a strange new environment for many of you, perched on an island in a temperate archipelago.

The research mission’s primary team has already set up their main base of operations in Scion. Alongside the limited number of specialised Etsenite scientists, they are beginning initial research into the planet’s anomaly.

A few days ago, a small settlement in the affected zone, Axis, reported abnormal technological errors. Yesterday, a different settlement, closer to Scion, reported similar malfunctions.

You are members of the secondary research team dispatched to Axis. Your task sounds simple enough.

  • Identify the cause of the errors.
  • Prevent them from spreading further.

But, just like the impossible second star, you suspect nothing is as simple as it seems.
